On Thursday (April 10), Depeche Mode announced the upcoming release of Depeche Mode: M, a feature-length concert film documenting their electrifying shows in Mexico City during the Memento Mori Tour. Directed by Fernando Frias, the film showcases the band’s three sold-out performances in front of an estimated 200,000 fans in September 2023, incorporating interstitials and archival footage alongside live performance clips. According to the band, the film will seek to explore “the parallels between the themes on ‘Memento Mori’ and the deep connection to death and mortality in Mexican culture.” The project captures Depeche Mode’s first major tour following the death of the band’s founder and keyboardist, Andy “Fletch” Fletcher, on May 26, 2022, at the age of 60. Depeche Mode: M is set to hit theaters later this year, providing fans with “a window into the band’s timeless global influence, and a powerful tribute to the unbreakable connection between music, tradition and the human spirit.” (Rolling Stone)
